Meet Jesus: Week Five

Every summer, TIF watches students graduate high school and prepare for the next step in their education. For Jesus, that next step is college. This Take Stock in Children alum is currently a freshman at Florida Gulf Coast University. (In his latest note to us, he wrote, “College is AMAZING! Things are going great for me! I love it!”)

Between graduating from Immokalee High School and beginning his freshman year of college, Jesus spent the summer with his family, who work as migrant farmhands — an occupation and lifestyle common among residents of Immokalee. Each day, Jesus took a minute or two to tell us about his summer experiences.

Whoa! It’s super early! We arrived here at Bainbridge at around 5:30 a.m. and we're already up. My dad has to run to fix something and later on around 8:00 p.m. we'll be heading back up to Tennessee. Work starts there tomorrow so we have to be there early. My dad is in a rush to get things done early. I’m super sleepy.

I just woke up and realized how late it is. We arrived here around 6:00 a.m., but my dad said I could stay home today. He went off to work, but it seems like it’ll be a short day. I noticed that it’s pretty dark outside. That means...rain! We’ve been doing so much traveling this past week, but thankfully we’re done with that for now.

Whoot! Whoot! No work today! I think today I’ll stay home and play some video games. I’m in the mood for some nice relaxation. Today is the perfect day to be alone in my little room so that I can relax.

Autobots mobilize! I’m about to watch Transformers for the third time! It’s that good and awesome! I didn't work today so I had the day off. I didn’t do much except stay home with my mom.

North Carolina has beautiful weather. It’s so nice and cool outside. Compared to burning hot Georgia it feels like you’re in central AC. I’m here with my mom and some relatives. We came to visit them for a bit since we had the day off again today.

Yay! I’m heading to a party nearby in the state of North Carolina. It’s mostly family, but I haven’t seen them in about two years so I’m excited to see them.
